Head of the Ukrainian Government Viktor Yanukovych met with US Assistant Secretary of State Daniel Fried. Starting talks the American official personally congratulated Viktor Yanukovych with his appointment to the post of Prime Minister and wished fruitful work.

The parties to the meeting discussed prospects of bilateral cooperation and main ways in foreign policy of Ukraine. They particularly touched upon deepening of the course on European and Euro-Atlantic integration. In this connection Head of the Government emphasized that Ukraine strives for purposeful and, at the same time, pragmatic and constructive development of relations with the EU and NATO while taking into consideration national interests and public opinion.



Both parts hope that future steps of new Ukrainian Government as well as USA leaders will be aimed at deepening of Ukrainian-American relations and filling them with subject actions. In the process of discussion Viktor Yanukovych also informed that Ukraine intends to pave faster way towards accedence to WTO and stated gratitude for the USA support in this matter.

US Assistant Secretary of State hailed the urge of Ukraine to create the system of power security, the elements of which should include diversification of power supply, construction of clear mechanisms of gas supply and stability in oil supply to Central and Western European countries. According to him, the US Government also approves of Poland and Ukraine intention to complete Odessa-Brody-Plock oil pipeline with the help of Middle Asia neighbours.

Viktor Yanukovych and Daniel Fried also exchanged thoughts concerning terms of official visit of Ukraine's Government Head to the USA.
