The Party of Regions Leader, participating today in a solemn event in the National Museum-Reserve "Battle for Kyiv in 1943" (the village of New Petrivcy of Kyiv region) on the occasion of 65th anniversary of the liberation of Kyiv from the fascist invaders, told the media representatives in an interview that the Party of Regions members are going to seek control over expending the credit issued to Ukraine by the IMF.
"We laid down the demands from the opposition to be charged now with a control over drawing on this money. So far we have not seen any reaction of the authorities or the IMF representative office to our suggestion", the Party of Regions Leader pointed out in particular.
Viktor Yanukovych specified as well that the IMF representative office and the authorities have not made any practical proposal to the Party of Regions. According to him, the Party of Regions will continue insisting on this requirement.
The Party of Regions Leader emphasized the necessity for the first tranche of the IMF credit at the amount of $4.5 billion to be directed precisely to the real sector of the economy. "So that this money is not used for paying off the credits and borrowings which had been made previously and which actually empower the investors to withdraw their money and leave now", he underlined.
Answering the journalists' question regarding an alleged split within the ranks of the Party of Regions members, Viktor Yanukovych marked that he considered such talk as a technique used by the opponents to fight against the Party of Regions.
"It is a technique applied by our opponents to fight against the party. We are not surprised at it because it is their practice – to fling mud at somebody and display themselves wearing white", he said.
Commenting the information which appeared in the media that the MPs from the so-called "Klyuev group" handed in their written requests on withdrawal from the party, he pointed out that except for Taras Chornovil's one there are no other requests.
Viktor Yanukovych estimated the situation in the party as stable. With that said, he noted that discussions within the party is a fully normal phenomenon. According to him, not all MPs – the Party of Regions parliamentary faction members welcome the pre-term elections. However, he underlined that should the party make any decision the whole faction will fulfill it 100%. | |
