Viktor Yanukovych: The government should be interested in making prompt alterations to the budget more than opposition
05.06.2008, 17:38
The Party of Regions Leader Viktor Yanukovych after a meeting of the Opposition government answered journalists' questions whether the Party of Regions is ready to initiate the Cabinet of Ministers resignation if it fails to introduce a draft of alterations to the budget and when this could happen.
"This could happen anytime. However, for the time being the budget law has been already passed. It enables to elaborate changes to the 2008 budget. And the government has no grounds to delay this issue. The government should be interested in making prompt alterations to the budget more than opposition. It carries political responsibility for the state of affairs in the country. But everything happens vice versa: opposition demands the coalition to approve the budget as soon as possible", Viktor Yanukovych stated.
"Unfortunately, we do not see the government's interest in solving many challenges, which are increasing in number. The state programs are not funded, the investment programs of domestic producers decline and are even halted. Thus, investment resource is withdrawn from our national industry. It means that the Ukrainian economy will not develop. Today it is not felt but in some period of time the reduction of industrial production volume, decline in competitiveness of domestic products, decrease in workplaces could take place, he added.
Answering a question what position the Party of Regions will occupy regarding dismissal of Valentina Semenyuk from the post of the Head of the State Property Fund of Ukraine, Viktor Yanukovych said: "There should be grounds for dismissing Semenyuk. For such groundwork the relevant information is required either from Semenyuk personally or from parliamentary committees or temporary investigation commission. Such procedures are stipulated in the Constitution. We do not oppose such procedures. We wish the authorities always worked transparently, constantly reported to parliament and informed how they are implementing their policy and ensuring the country's performance. Besides, it is improper and illegal to examine this case without presence of Semenyuk in parliament".
He also confirmed that the Party of Regions faction will initially insist on approving the privatization program and then examine the issue of Semenyuk dismissal. | |
