Viktor Yanukovych: What Ukraine will be like has always been a matter of key importance and principle for us
05.09.2008, 13:14
Replying at today's briefing in "Zoryanyi" to a question about the prospects of forming a parliamentary coalition composed of the PoR and BYUT factions, the Party of Regions Leader Viktor Yanukovych said the following:
- Practically any negotiations concerning the forming of a would-be coalition, the terms of its creation have not been held. I would say that I personally and the Party of Regions as a whole do not care much about offices or positions. What Ukraine will be like has always been a matter of key importance and principle for us. And we are ready to discuss with all political forces represented in Parliament the conditions under which we are going to unite so that Ukraine would develop economically, so that social issues would be settled, so that Ukraine and the Ukrainian people would not be divided on any basis. To discuss the terms and principles which will be founded on the points I listed in the Statement today.
You know that we introduced a draft of alterations to the currently effective Constitution. It was registered at the end of past session work. Now we are ready to sit down with our colleagues – deputies of Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine – and work on this draft, reach compromise, find solutions. But it is completely obvious for us that the country cannot live under such conditions. And this "game" of so-called democratic coalition has already bored everyone. Any normal person cannot observe it indifferently. And it is time to put an end to it. | |
