Viktor Yanukovych: We will not move a step from our principles
18.09.2008, 15:09
The Party of Regions Leader Viktor Yanukovych met today with the Lugansk regional affiliate of the PoR. He heartily congratulated the Lugansk Party members on the region's 70th anniversary.
"I have always tried to congratulate Lugansk citizens on their holiday: I was on the 50th, 55th, 60th and 65th anniversaries of the Lugansk region, and I am here now, on the eve of the 70th anniversary of its foundation. I have arrived in Lugansk region holding various positions. Now I am in Lugansk as the opposition leader", Viktor Yanukovych said.
He underlined that the Party's most valuable asset, indeed priceless capital was the people who put into practice its key principles through routine labor. Now our party accounts for over one million members, – the Party of Regions Leader said.
Speaking about Ukraine's near political future, Viktor Yanukovych noted: "Today we face a dilemma – either forming of a coalition or pre-term elections. And one of the main tasks of this trip is to hear people. It is very important for me to hear live opinions, rather than just look through the sociological research results. We do not need power to occupy the offices. We need it only to carry out our principles. They are asserting Russian language, the state's neutral status, developing the country's economy, improving the people's well-being, conducting economic and judicial reforms, local government reform and others".
Viktor Yanukovych also called for prompt approval of the Law "On the principles of internal and foreign policy of Ukraine". "This Law is needed not to let any official make decisions by their eye, contrary to the public opinion, – the Party of Regions Leader underlined. – This Law is especially necessary in the light of confrontation in South Ossetia. It is not our war, and the authorities should not have sided with any party to the conflict. The policy makers should be kept from making such steps by the Law "On the principles of internal and foreign policy", which the Party of Regions suggests for approval.
During a meeting with the activists of the Lugansk regional affiliate of the PoR Viktor Yanukovych handed party cards to the new members wishing them adequately keep up the Party of Regions glorious traditions. | |
