18.09.2008, 18:12
During today's trip to the Lugansk region, where the events timed to its 70th anniversary are taking place, the Party of Regions Leader Viktor Yanukovych answered the media representatives' questions.
He said in particular: "We are preparing for pre-term elections. I think that we are not the authors of these elections if they occur".
The Party of Regions Leader called the authors of a snap election both the 2007 elections and possible pre-term parliamentary elections, if they still be held, "orange" team. According to Viktor Yanukovych, "initially the probability of conducting the next extraordinary parliamentary elections is caused by that "orange" team created a coalition unviable from the very beginning".
Regarding the format of the would-be coalition and negotiations with its potential members, Viktor Yanukovych said the following: "As for probable political negotiations, I do not want to anticipate anything now. I can say one thing: if we create a coalition with political forces, it will be based on the programs and principles which we pursue", he noted.
"The Party of Regions will never betray its voters", V. Yanukovych underlined.
Answering the journalists' questions about the upcoming presidential elections, the Party of Regions Leader mentioned that he did not exclude his participation. And to the question which position would more fit to fulfill the Party of Regions program principles – of the speaker or president, V. Yanukovych replied that for him a position did not matter.
"A post is not the main principle for me. I treat any post as a tool which will let me carry out the program principles which we adhere to", the Party of Regions Leader pointed out. | |
