Viktor Yanukovych: Stability in Ukraine will set after the parliamentary and presidential elections take place

The Party of Regions Leader Viktor Yanukovych's participation in "Shuster Live" program on October 10 raised broad public resonance

11.10.2008, 22:29

Today we introduce you the opinions of famous Ukrainians who watched the program.

Les' TANYUK, Honored Art Worker of Ukraine, Member of Parliament in 1990-2007:

- On air of "Shuster Live" program Viktor Yanukovych definitely looked more well-reasoned, he had an advantage over Yulia Tymoshenko. Yulia Tymoshenko was in her style – she was a smooth-tongued, sweet-voiced bird. If one resumes the program, it can be said that Yanukovych seemed more convincing. Yulia Tymoshenko began getting angry, and if you are angry, then you are not right.

Volodymyr BEBESHKO, musical producer:

- A lot of my colleagues, show businessmen attended the program. And I understood one thing through expression of their faces: they are very disturbed. They thought they worked in show business, but it turned out that there are more formidable candidatures deserving to work in this sphere. Yulia Tymoshenko was aggressive, and Viktor Yanukovych was calm and easily parried all her lunges against him. Provided that both sides had serious accusations against each other, it is difficult for me to say who was more preferable.

Anatoliy BORSYUK, TV presenter, producer, scenario writer:

- I watched literally a fragment because I know well the positions of the sides. It is difficult to estimate. In order to define exactly who of them was more convincing, it is necessary to know many nuances of the background of their relations, careers, etc. Outward effects do not matter to me anymore, I need something more than expressive motions, mimicries and all other.

To identify the winner of these debates, one should be unbiased and not fancy anybody. Then it is possible to judge who of them is better. And when there are some, even tiny, political preferences, it is very complicated to be objective.

Generally, it is an uneasy case – with our first persons. Certainly, I would like to see anyone more. And you get confused about the pre-election campaigns – when and what you were promised, that is why you do not wait for a result and do not check what has actually happened. The elections is one thing and your life is another.

Volodymyr SKACHKO, editor-in-chief of social and political weekly "Kiev Telegraph":

- As for me, Yanukovych, who managed to resist Yulia-style reactivity, aggressiveness, populism and explicit lie, won. The only point where he lost was in a situation with a word "sublimation". He should not have reacted because I am sure Tymoshenko does not know what is sublimation. And overall he was more preferable. Purely emotionally and purely semantically, curiously enough, Yanukovych won.

Andriy ERMOLAEV, director of the Center for social researches "Sofia":

- I think Yulia Tymoshenko proved to be badly prepared for these debates. Her advisers might have let her down. Creative potential might have exhausted because the instruments of the 2007 campaign were applied. There were the materials prepared in advance aimed at general reproach, attempts to remind of last year's results in the view of existent critical attitude towards the authorities and real problems faced by the audience, the electorate. It looked quite primitive. It seems to me both the attendants and viewers found themselves, I will say so, critically set against the government work.

Yanukovych in the light of all these preparations looked better. At the same time, it seems to me Tymoshenko reckoned on that Yanukovych would behave aggressively. This estimation proved to be wrong. Yanukovych looked more convincing, prepared, and the main thing – he came out from positive positions.

Jan TABACHNIK, People's Artist of Ukraine:

- I consider that Yanukovych was more balanced and more confident than Tymoshenko. Tymoshenko got nervous, hurl some purely womanish reproaches... In a word, she behaved more as a woman than the head of the government. The prime minister is not to do so.

Dmytro PONAMARCHUK, president of the Vyacheslav Chornovil Foundation for free journalists:

- Viktor Yanukovych overdid vigorously a formidable competitor. He firmly stepped to a telecast as a politician striving for fierce debates. 1:0! He confidently stood at the studio, and Tymoshenko had her head in the clouds of the screen wearing white clothes. 2:0! He suggested her come down to earth and go to a market to look at the soaring prices, and she began to speak about the price of his shoes as if he should go for routs in bast shoes. It was Tymoshenko's own goal – 3:0! When the speech proceeded to miners' labor, Yanukovych opened up his heart, and Tymoshenko dissembled. It turned out quite trivial because everyone does know that the law on prestige of miner's labor is a brainchild of Yanukovych and his government. 4:0! And finale was really splendid: Yanukovych congratulated all spectators on a Christian holiday – the Intercession of the Mother of God, and Yulia Tymoshenko made a plain effort to congratulate in pursuit... It is just indecorously! In a word, Argentina – Jamaica – 5:0!
