Parliamentarian Oleksandr Kozub: 100 days of work of Viktor Yanukovych's coalition Government were hard and responsible labor

100 days of work of Viktor Yanukovych's coalition Government were hard and responsible labor. Unlike his predecessors, the incumbent Cabinet of Ministers is not trying to impress by affectation. It is just efficiently working.
At the start of its work, the Government focused on two key areas. First, it identified and implemented urgent measures to overcome crisis elements in the economy and social sphere. Second, it developed the program of the Cabinet activities for its entire term in office until the year 2011.
The priority measures include a plan of urgent steps of the executive branch of power until the end of this year, primarily aimed at safeguarding Ukraine's energy and food security, restoring a budgetary balance, removing a gap in the growth of import and export, and completing preparation for Ukraine's entry into WTO.
These measures have already produced first results. The Government has prevented a grain crisis. It is a question of the food security. We remember 2004 when the crop was exported from Ukraine, which later forced us to buy grain abroad in spring.
The Government has succeeded in reducing fuel prices, which in turn, allows to improve pricing and tariff policy, and to exert influence in the uncoersive manner in a bid to bring down the prices of goods and services.
Persistent efforts have produced an agreement on the acceptable price on the gas import, and the issue of the gas supplies to Ukraine has been entirely solved. There is a differentiated approach to reducing gas prices for the population.
One of the Government priorities was development of the road network in Ukraine. Over the 5-year period, some 7 billion hryvnias will be allocated for the countryside roads only.
Relations with the Russian Federation have been normalized. It has created conditions for unblocking export of the Ukrainian meat and dairy products to Russia. They have outlined prospects for cooperation in the aircraft industry, space sector and other sectors of the two countries' economy.
Thus, effective and sometimes tough steps of Viktor Yanukovych's Government have allowed to stabilize situation in the economic and social sphere, and to achieve positive results within a few months time. The economy is gradually returning to the track of the sustainable growth. | |
