Mykola Azarov: Artificial politic destabilization could adversely affect economics

03.04.2007, 14:02

Objective facts earnestly refute the thesis of opposition concerning alleged economic crisis in our country. Today, during the special sitting of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine First Vice Prime Minister, Finance Minister of Ukraine Mykola Azarov informed, that on the results of the first quarter state budget revenues have raised by 36% as compared to the similar period of last year.

Preliminary data of state statistics confirm high rates of economic development. Inflation will show less than 0.7%, by calculations of Government experts.

The Government have ensured increase of social standards since April 1. Finance Ministry is already in process of calculations of recurrent rise of social standards from the second half-year, primarily concerning salary growth, health protection and education.

According to Mykola Azarov, experts of International Monetary Fund, who he and Economics Minister of Ukraine Anatoly Kinakh met April 2, evaluated the situation as extraordinary successful for Ukraine.

"To be earnest, I cannot find any reasons which could lay the base for the decision to dissolve the Parliament. I am not able to find any signs of social-economic instability, – First Vice Prime Minister of Ukraine opined. – If Government could not cope with its charges, unless we experienced gradual growth, if we showed the results similar to August of 2005, which firstly for a 6-year period had been characterized by complete fall of production amounts, absolute GDP drop, then we would speak about a crisis".

"I agree if we had lost control over currency course and inflation and afforded price rise, we could speak about instability, – Mykola Azarov added. – But we are showing 6 months of stable prices at the market, and it is undoubtedly our Government's achievements".

Mykola Azarov also supported proposition of Prime Minister of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych about compromise with the President.

I don't take this situation as a deadlock one as I believe there are constructive possible ways out, Mykola Azarov said. President has made a mistake, to my mind, but it can be corrected. The fact that Verkhovna Rada met half-way with President's demands, claims of opposition is the step forward, a constructive step. So, I think we should support this step and prevent further forcing this situation.

Moreover, First Vice Prime Minister of Ukraine stressed on the possible consequences of artificial destabilization of the power. He reminded that October 2004, on the eve of "orange revolution", in Ukraine saw growth rates of GDP at 13%, in November being 11,5%, in December – 9,5% and in January – 6.5%. Such is the price of political destabilization.

And nowadays the danger to come across serious factors of economic destabilization is created, so to say worsening of social standards.

And that is to be entirely responsibility of the President.
