Anatoliy Kinakh: Macroeconomic indices forecasted by the government are groundless
03.07.2008, 10:14
Macroeconomic indices forecasted by the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine, which should become a basis for implementing efficient economic policy for the foreseeable future, are groundless. This was stated by People's Deputy, Party of Regions parliamentary faction Vice-Chairman, Minister of Industry and Entrepreneurship of the Opposition government Anatoliy Kinakh while commenting on the economic prognoses promulgated by the government.
According to him, the authorities' lack of the vision of a clear-cut scenario for economic growth of the country is based on inconsistency of actions in a triangle President – government – National Bank. At the same time, only availability of unbiased, professional and systematic prognosis of macroeconomic indices is a guarantee of elaborating an efficient strategy for development. As Anatoliy Kinakh underlined, for the first five months of 2008 inflation made up 14.6% and therefore by the end of the year it will definitely exceed 15.3% predicted by the government. He reminded that the authoritative international experts' research pointed out 20-21% annual inflation. "If price advance in industry was 24.2% over 5 months, it is strange to believe that to the end of the year it will be less than 24.6%", Anatoliy Kinakh says.
Lack of real groundwork for developing efficient economic policy in a form of competent prognoses for this and the next year accompanied by lack of urgent program decisions complicates the economic situation. "Verkhovna Rada still does not have drafts on alterations to the 2008 budget and a package of anti-inflationary measures, terms for their consideration and for preparation of the 2009 budget are ruined", the politician pointed out.
The People's Deputy called such economic forecasts as the government's shortsightedness, which primarily will worsen the process of social protection of the people. "The economic policy, which is based on consumption tactics rather than on the growth strategy, which violates existent laws and enables the government to manage budget funds manually, cannot be efficient. Given worsening conditions for entrepreneurship and development of industry on the whole, rise in prices for energy carriers, hryvnia revaluation, increase of credit resources cost, such actions could entail extremely negative consequences", Anatoliy Kinakh believes. | |
