Viktor Yanukovych: The country cannot live in such situation any more
22.08.2008, 15:19
The Party of Regions Leader Viktor Yanukovych during a press conference answered the journalists' questions whether the PoR held negotiations on forming a new coalition and what judgment of the Constitutional Court did the PoR members expect after the consideration of People's Deputies' submission concerning existence of the current coalition given a quit of two deputies. In particular, he said:
- Nobody has conducted the negotiations (on forming the coalition in a new format – Ed.). As for consultations, they have been under way. The People's Deputies are humans, the politicians who care about the country's future and Parliament. These consultations have never been ceased.
As for the coalition, the following question should be answered: "Are the Ukrainian people happy with the present situation or are they not? Are the authorities able to work efficiently having such composition of the coalition?"
We replied to these questions unambiguously: the economic state of affairs is very bad, a rise in prices led to a decrease in people's income, the economy should be dealt with systematically and treated professionally rather than in a populist way. Therefore, the composition of the government should be strengthened.
Populists, schemers, those who create negative situations in industries should be withdrawn from the government. I do not say that there are no specialists within the government. There are definitely specialists and responsible people. But everyone should be examined taking into account the state of affairs folded in one or another field of the economy.
The new coalition is certainly required. It will be determined by deputies through political consultations. In fact, the country cannot live in such situation any more.
One of the problems of today is the necessity to pass a law on the principles of home and foreign policy so that the authorities would have the relevant framework for their actions. So that to avoid the unrestricted statements which surprise the society made both by the MFA and the state's heads.
